When designer Nazneen Tariq made her foray in the world of fashion designing designer wear was an alien concept as there weren’t many designers who were making clothes on order.

“There was only Mrs Kazmi designing clothes at that time. Celebrated journalist, Samina Ibrahim, interviewed me back then and called me the first Pakistani designer who had brought the West to East! My designs have always been influenced by the West; I employed handwork on western silhouettes. I have great memories of working with the likes of Iraj, Zoella, Atiya Khan and Bibi,” Nazneen tells PLI.

Till 2006 Nazneen continued designing but when designers started mushrooming left, right and centre “and started selling outfits at really low rates it was impossible for me to keep up with that. I have always believed in quality over quantity and I used the best of fabric and embellishments for my creations. I used to get the gems for my clothes from Dubai.

It was on one such shopping visits, that I met this jewellery designer who was buying gems from the same shop for his jewellery. I showed him a calligraphic piece of Allah designed by my son Umair and asked him if he could make a pendant of it. He did and it looked beautiful. I then asked him to make eight more variations of the same calligraphy and took them as gifts to America. However, before I knew it I had sold all the silver pieces thanks to a dear friend who actually gave me the idea of selling them to her friends. And that’s how my jewellery designing brand Heavenly Regalia materialised,” shares jewellery designer Nazneen.

Nazneen loves working with emeralds and jades as green is a colour that gels well with all other colours. Nazneen participates in nearly all the fashion weeks and awards shows and there’s hardly a celebrity who hasn’t been adorned in her exquisite jewellery.

“Besides Pakistani actors and models my jewellery has also been adorned by Indian celebrities like Pooja Bhatt, Zeenat Aman, Juhi Chawla, Nargis Fakhri in fact Pooja Bhatt just ordered my latest gold coin rings. The President of Mauritius also bought jewellery from me thanks to Sharmila Faroqui who introduced me to her,” signs off Nazneen.
