She needs no introduction as her work speaks for itself. A celebrated stylist, beautician and entrepreneur, Saeeda Mandviwalla has garnered the reputation of being the best in her field. She enjoys great respect in the fashion arena both on the national and international level. Be it the latest in hair or makeup, she is at the top of her game. Even before a trend is introduced in the local market you can be sure to find it at TONI&GUY.

And when it comes to hair shows in fashion weeks, you can be sure to spot this genius at the forefront with her brigade of fun ‘n’ feisty models.

This year, too, Saeeda thrilled all with her FPW17 HAIR FASHION SCOUT II. “The theme of this year’s show was to be fashion conscious but not fashion obsessed. It is all about Duality created with a sense of freedom and individuality in mind for the latest collection. The aim is to give a fresh and open-minded outlook on how we cut, style and colour to enhance the look with makeup. The effortlessly cool side of one’s personality can be seen in the wardrobe inspired from London Fashion Week,” shared the doyenne recently in an interview with Pakistan Life Illustrated!

This Spring/Summer ’17 is all about revealing the real you! Step forward in hair, makeup and fashion.

This year Saeeda had whipped up a fresh look for her models. “The looks at FPW17 were full of movement and texture with simple yet effective styling. These looks are fun and exciting with spring/summer in mind; they are easy to maintain and can sail you through your day. The look is enhanced with colour and styling tools to create maximum impact,” elaborates Saeeda.

“Lighter blonde tones with darker browns and apricot shimmer besides bold salmon pink were seen on the catwalk almost like the spring hues bursting forth. These are hues you will be seeing this summer. The Avant Garde looks that we showed for a hot summer day are chic yet edgy to keep the hair tresses in shape.”

Talking about the various looks created for the show, we ask Saeeda to share her favourite one with us. “I loved all the looks we created for Hair Fashion Scout II but I must say my favourite was the big-brushed backcombed and va-va volume glamorous look that I gave to Zhalay. I had worked on a glowing look with cheeks strobe and slight ombré dark lips. I also loved using block colouring and illuminating techniques that created a seamless yet defined texture for the hair as seen on the ramp,” she animatedly shares.

Saeeda Mandviwalla, at TONI&GUY has taken their current global collection Duality to the next level by introducing these S/S17 looks – the Swing Box Bob, Textured Fringes, Tones of Brunette but nearly blonde, Man bun with Warrior Braids, Braided top with twisted roped braids or textured movement. “The aim was to create each look adding colour on the hair for a Faux root look, or longer hair lengths to add contouring of reflective colour to enhance each hair look.”

When it came to choice of hair colour, each colour palette was created to enhance each style, with detailed free hand placement and techniques like ‘micro lights’ – it added a luminous, luxe look and feel to the hair. Translucent and bold hues in sheer blushes of rouge and gold all accentuated the cuts perfectly.

The beauty contouring technique loved by celebrities, which is seen on Jessica Parker, Giesele Bundchen and Jesica Beil are starting to be seen more and more this season. Contouring and Colour blushing is used to enhance or soften features around the face.

One form of TONI&GUY Karachi Signature Colour Contouring technique is called Lumi – Ombrage. This concept is taken from Ombre and is the latest technique, which gradually lightens hair towards the ends, as well as around the face for a luminous effect that flatters the complexion and builds depth. Another is to create Ecaille that is a tortoiseshell effect and shades of browns and ashes are used to create this. They both are free hand techniques using hues of the same shade to create a lighter affect around the frame of the face – another trend introduced at TONI&GUY.

This S/S17, “We’re taking it back to the most important step: achieving healthy, radiant, conditioned skin. No more strobing, baking, or contour. Let your skin breathe.” Makeup team at TONI&GUY South recommends pairing natural and bold. “Skin that’s fresh and glowy paired with bold eyes or bold lips.”

While the show was proceeding seamlessly, there was a loud gasp from the audience as Rubab fell down unceremoniously. The sole of her shoe had come off! However, the fall made it a memorable segment as the girl did not falter once. Rather, a seasoned model that she is, she pulled it off with great panache. “Rubab managed to carry herself confidently down to the end of the ramp, bent over removed her shoes and did a little act by holding her pair of shoes and walking confidently back, in a fun casual mood which was spontaneous and showy,” muses Saeeda.

A champion of firsts, the latest initiative at TONI&GUY would be “to grow with smaller virtual salons in different parts of the city and to franchise the brand to people who are keen to improve their existing set ups and take on the brand. I am also planning to introduce non-surgical, non-invasive procedures for skin with 24k gold facials to look youthful without being plastic and give the best products in our salons and in Pakistan. We are also planning a Hair Trend Show this year,” discloses the lady with the magical touch.

“Recently I have been a part of Mainstage an event held by TONI&GUY every year that introduces new looks for hair cut/colour and styling. Besides, I am currently working on a project called Women’s Enterprise Pakistan, a certified platform to train beginners who want to expand their businesses and mentor women with training in their fields to help generate awareness for women entrepreneurs and enterprise. I look forward to its outcome in 2017,” signs off Saeeda Mandviwalla.
